What is No Harm No-Kill?
No Harm No-Kill is a campaign centered on compassion, commitment and community. It is a group of people who have compassion for the lives of homeless animals, who are committed to safeguarding the quality of these lives and who understand that community involvement is the key to building an animal shelter that upholds these principles.
True life saving means not only avoiding needless euthanasia but also putting into place the best practices to humanely move an animal out of the shelter system altogether and into a loving home.
No Harm No-Kill is a commitment to upholding not only no-kill policies at shelters but also ensuring that the animals are entitled to their Five Freedoms*:
- freedom from hunger and thirst
- freedom from discomfort
- freedom from injury or disease
- freedom to express normal behavior
- freedom from fear and distress
Protecting animals in this manner requires more than overnight solutions – it calls for a compassionate community with the resources, planning and accountability to ensure it’s done right.
